Gaplast is investing in highperformance blow moulder equipment by Bekum

The Gaplast pharmaceutical deal is defined by the customer's exacting requirements: The patented 6-layer blow-moulded container comprising the bag-in-bottle place extreme demands on machine technology. Bekum – long-term partner of Gaplast from Saulgrub – delivered a co-extrusion blow moulder Bekum BM 206 DL with 6 extruders shortly before Interpack, last april.

The demands made could not have been higher: Gaplast ordered a dualstation blow-moulder BM 206 DL with 4 extrusion heads and 6 extruders. The system fills four cavities on the right and the same number on the left. These specifications meant the equpiment posed a challenge for project planning and construction at Bekum in Berlin. The centrepiece of the equipment features a  generously-dimensioned, centrally-arranged extrusion head. To ensure accessibility and maintenance at Gaplast, Bekum constructed a quick-change feature. The quality requirements for pharmaceutical bottles resulted in an additional bobbing hydraulic on the extruder, for an optimised control over the tubing.

The technological standards and flexibility of these machines is also made evident by the distribution of material in the extrusion head: This core element of blow-moulding technology was combined into a spiral distributor for the bottle – a side-fed die head with a heart-shaped curved tube was used for the  inside bag. Bekum goes on to explain that the new machines, with their optimised controls, open up a degree of reproductive capability previously not possible: not only can the BM 206 DL vary the air inflow dose in 8 levels via the valves – the pressure per extruder can also be dosed very accurately, and, above all, can be reproduced perfectly. According to information from Gaplast, this sets new standards in process supervision and control. The well-known quality predicate 'Made in Germany' and the passion for development at Bekum, which these machines demonstrate, make a resounding statement about the standing and significance of the German special-purpose-machinery industry.

BEKUM – Everything for plastic packaging from one source - worldwide.
If innovative and economical machinery solutions with high productivity for customised packaging requirements matter, then BEKUM, with over 45 years of experience in blow moulding technology, is the first choice worldwide. With future-oriented and reliable production processes and machinery for the commercial production of blow-moulded containers ranging from 3 ml to 3,000 l, BEKUM offers everything for plastic packaging from one source.

The BEKUM group counts among the leading producers of blow-moulding equipment for plastic container packaging worldwide.

At the same time, the company acts as a general contractor for the installation of entire production lines. Production lines are complete installations with which plastic packaging is manufactured, sorted, filled, decorated and packaged.

This includes all additional facilities, from the processing of raw materials to the recycling of waste, the manufacture of seals and caps, the installation of all ancillary components, and even laboratory organisation.

Complete production lines for soft drinks, mineral water, milk, cooking oil, vinegar, ground coffee, salt, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, liquid soaps, detergents, paints, fuels and motor oils have been delivered to many countries all over the world.

Reliability, operating efficiency and sophisticated conceptual design, as well as almost five decades of experience, characterise the high standard of both BEKUM production lines and its blow-moulding technology.

BEKUM (Berliner Kunststoff Maschinen) was founded in Berlin in 1959. That same year, BEKUM developed and introduced the first ring neck calibration in the world - a technology still in use today by all machinery manufacturers. Numerous inventions and patents followed and showed that BEKUM's innovative and customer-accessible machines were always a step ahead of the times - this still holds true today. Our know-how from over 20,000 machines sold worldwide flows into all our customer requests.

Today 460 employees work for the BEKUM group in 4 plants around the world and generate a sales revenue of ¤ 65 million (2007).

BEKUM – Customer satisfaction is our mission.
